WHEN THE DRINK BECOMES NECESSARY

At first, nobody thinks they are becoming addicted.

It is a drink after work.

A drink with friends.

A drink to celebrate.

A drink because the day was difficult.

A drink because tomorrow will be difficult.

Then, slowly, the reason changes.

You are no longer drinking because you want to.

You are drinking because you need the feeling that comes afterward.

The world becomes quieter.

Thoughts become slower.

Problems become distant.

For a few hours, reality loses its sharp edges.

And that is where the trap begins.

Because the brain remembers relief.

Eventually, alcohol doesn’t have to make you feel good anymore.

It only has to make you feel less bad.

That distinction changes everything.

The person who once drank for pleasure can eventually drink to sleep.

Drink to stop shaking.

Drink to stop thinking.

Drink to face the morning.

Drink because being sober feels unbearable.

And then the strangest part happens:

The substance that was originally used to escape reality becomes part of the reality that the person is desperately trying to escape.

The bottle creates problems.

The problems create stress.

The stress creates the desire for the bottle.

And the cycle closes.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Until drinking no longer feels like a choice.

It feels like survival.

This is the liquid trap.
