Custom Path Playblast makes a clean QuickTime movie of your shot and saves it exactly where your pipeline wants it - built from the scene name, every time, for everyone on the team.

Path rules anyone can set up

• Words are taken straight from your scene name - Ep01_Sq010_Sh020_ly_v003 is split into Ep, Sq, Sh, ly, v for you.

• Say what each word should become: ly → Layout, Ep* → Ep01 with zero padding.

• Arrange the folders with drag-and-drop blocks. A yellow line shows exactly where a block lands.

• The final path is previewed live while you edit.

• One rule per Maya project, stored in the project folder - the whole team gets the same paths.

• Every Save keeps the rule it replaces: Load Old Rule brings an earlier one back.

• No code, no regular expressions.

Your name and the frame number in the movie

• Tick Name and / or Frame number: name top left, frame number top right.

• Any text size, a colour for each.

• Added only while the movie is made - nothing is left in your scene or undo queue.

Clean, consistent movies

• Render preview (on by default): through the render camera - or any camera you pick - with polygons only: no HUD, grid, curves, joints or image planes

• Resolution gate, overscan and 2D Pan/Zoom off - the movie is the render frame

• Turn Render preview off for a plain playblast of the viewport exactly as you see it

• Your viewport, panel and camera settings are restored afterwards

• Folders are created for you; ask before overwriting, or don't

Made for daily use

• Range follows the timeline, or type your own

• Path, range and size update when you open or save a scene

• Mini mode: one click shrinks the window to a single Playblast button

• Drag-and-drop install; for a team, install from a shared drive and update everyone by replacing one file

Requirements

• Autodesk Maya 2022 - 2027 (PySide2 and PySide6)

• No plug-ins needed. Tested on Windows in Maya 2023, Maya 2026 and Maya 2027.

Install in 30 seconds

1. Unzip to a folder that can stay.

2. Drag install_CustomPlayblast.py into the Maya viewport.

3. Click the new shelf button.

• Personal - one person, on the computers you use yourself.
