How to send a digital gift on Getly

Any product on Getly can be sent as a gift: a planner, an e-book, a preset pack, a pattern. You pay, the recipient gets an email with a gift link, and the product ends up in their own library. This tutorial walks through every step, on your side and on theirs, plus what to do when something goes wrong. It takes about three minutes.

Before you start

  • Sign in. Gifts are tied to your account, so you need to be signed in to send one. That is also how you can track the gift and resend it later.
  • Know the recipient's email. Use the address they actually check. They will have to sign in to Getly with this exact address to redeem the gift, so a work email they never use for personal accounts is a poor choice.
  • You can gift something you already own. Normally Getly stops you from buying the same fixed-price product twice. A gift is the exception, because the recipient does not own it yet.

Step 1: add the product to your cart

Open the product page and add it to the cart as usual. For a pay-what-you-want product, enter the amount you want to pay first. If you are sending several gifts, add all of them: each item in the cart can go to a different person.

Step 2: switch on "Send as gift"

In the cart, under the item, there is a switch labelled Send as gift. Turn it on and a small form opens with four fields:

  1. Recipient email (required).
  2. Recipient name (optional, up to 100 characters). It is used in the greeting of the gift email and on the gift page. Without it the email says "Hi Friend".
  3. Personal message (optional, up to 500 characters). It appears in the email and on the gift page. This is the part that makes a file feel like a present, so write a sentence about why you chose it.
  4. Schedule delivery (optional). A date and time picker.

Items you leave the switch off for are bought for yourself as usual. You can mix both in one order.

Step 3: choose when it arrives

Leave the date empty and the gift email goes out right after your payment is confirmed. Pick a date and time and the gift waits until then. The time is in your local time zone, as the cart notes under the field, so if the recipient lives elsewhere, convert first: 8:00 on 25 December in Berlin is 2:00 the same morning in New York.

Scheduled gifts are sent by a job that runs every hour, so expect the email within about an hour after the time you picked, not to the minute. If the moment matters (a birthday breakfast), schedule it an hour or two early.

Step 4: pay

Check out the normal way. You can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay where available, or in USDT or USDC. The gift is created when the payment is confirmed. Your own receipt arrives as for any order, and the product also appears in your library.

Step 5: what the recipient gets

The recipient receives an email with the subject "You've received a gift" and the product name. It shows who sent it, your message if you wrote one, and a Redeem Your Gift button with a plain link underneath in case the button does not work. The email uses the language of your Getly account.

The link opens a gift page on Getly with the product, the store and your message. To claim it, they:

  1. Click Log in to redeem. If they do not have a Getly account, they create one on the same screen. They must use the email address you entered.
  2. Come back to the gift page automatically and click Redeem your gift.
  3. See the product added to their library, with a button to open it. From there they download the files like any purchase: no expiry, up to 25 downloads per file.

A gift link can be redeemed once. The seller never sees the recipient's email address.

Step 6: track it from your side

Open your library and look for Gifts you sent. Each gift shows who it is for and its status:

  • Scheduled for a date: waiting for the delivery time.
  • Delivered, not redeemed yet: the email went out, the recipient has not claimed it.
  • Redeemed with a date: done. You also get an email at that moment.
  • Refunded, the link no longer works: see below.

For a delivered gift that is not redeemed yet, a Send again button resends the email to the same address. You can do this up to three times a day.

When something goes wrong

The recipient cannot find the email

Ask them to check spam and the promotions tab first, then use Send again. If the gift is still scheduled, there is nothing to resend yet; it goes out at the time you set.

"This gift was sent to ja***@gmail.com"

They are signed in with another address. The message names the right one, partly masked, and tells them to sign out and sign in with it. They need to sign out and sign in with the address you entered. This check is what stops anyone else who sees the link from taking the gift.

"Not yet delivered"

It is a scheduled gift and they opened the page early, or the hourly job has not run yet. They can come back after the delivery time.

You typed the wrong email

The address cannot be edited after payment. You can request a refund for that item from your library within the refund window (at least 30 days). If the refund is approved, the gift link stops working, and you can buy the gift again with the right address.

Quick recap

  1. Sign in, add the product to the cart.
  2. Turn on Send as gift, enter the email, add a name and a message.
  3. Leave the date empty for now, or schedule it in your local time.
  4. Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or USDT/USDC.
  5. The recipient signs in with that email and clicks Redeem your gift.
  6. Follow it under Gifts you sent and resend if needed.
