GoodNotes sticker sheets: sizes and formats buyers expect

A digital sticker sheet looks like the simplest product there is: a page of small pictures. The buyer, though, is not going to look at the page. They are going to lift one sticker off it and drop it onto a planner page in GoodNotes, Notability or a similar note app, on top of their own handwriting. That single action decides almost everything about the file you should deliver.

We looked at the Digital Sticker Sheets shelf on Getly, measured on 26 September 2026: 82 active listings, with roughly one shop for every three listings. The median paid price is $2.00, and the middle half of the shelf sits between $1.00 and $3.00. It is a small, cheap shelf, which makes the file itself the main thing a buyer can judge you on.

A sticker is a picture with no background

The one property a buyer expects without asking is transparency. A sticker placed on a lined or dotted planner page should show the page around its edges, not a white rectangle. That rules some formats in and some out:

  • PNG can carry a transparent background. It is the default format for a digital sticker.
  • JPEG cannot. Every JPEG sticker arrives inside a solid box, whatever the preview on the listing shows.
  • PDF is a page, not a sticker. It is useful for printing and cutting, and some buyers use it to crop stickers out themselves, but it is not what a note-taker drops onto a page.

Here is what the shelf actually delivers. The shares add up to more than 100% because some listings include several formats:

Format in the delivered filesShare of listings
PNG41.5%
PDF34.1%
JPEG34.1%
ZIP archive7.3%

A PNG is not automatically transparent: the file has to be saved with an alpha channel. When we read the files themselves, 45.3% of the PNG files on this shelf could carry transparency, and only 19.5% of listings delivered at least one transparent PNG. Meanwhile, 36.6% of descriptions use the word "transparent". Those are different measures and do not prove any single listing wrong, but the gap is worth a minute of your time: open your own file and check.

Pixel sizes that survive a zoom

Note apps let people zoom, and a sticker that looks sharp at the size of a thumbnail can turn soft when someone pinches in on a page. The median PNG on this shelf is 1,491 pixels on its long edge, and the median JPEG 1,376 pixels. Those numbers describe the sheet, not each sticker, which is the point to watch: a sheet of 40 stickers at 1,500 pixels wide gives each sticker only a couple of hundred pixels.

A practical rule of thumb: export each sticker at the size it will be placed, then double it. If a sticker will sit about a quarter of a page wide, it needs enough pixels to still look crisp at twice that. File size is rarely the problem on this shelf: the median delivered file is about 0.6 MB.

One sheet or individual stickers

The median listing on this shelf delivers exactly one file. That is usually a whole sheet, which leaves the buyer to crop out every sticker by hand inside their app. Many buyers do not mind; many do.

The stronger delivery is both:

  1. The full sheet as one PNG, for buyers who want to see the set and cut it themselves.
  2. Every sticker as its own transparent PNG, trimmed close to the edge, in a ZIP archive, for buyers who want to import them straight into a sticker library.
  3. A PDF only if you also want to reach people who print and cut paper stickers.

Only a small minority of listings on this shelf (2.4%) ship both a PNG and a PDF, so a clear "you get the sheet, the single stickers and a printable" is still a way to stand out.

What the price says

Split by format, listings delivering PDF have a median of $0.99, PNG $2.00 and JPEG $2.50. The groups are small, so read this as a picture of the shelf rather than a price rule. What it does suggest is that buyers are not paying extra for the more useful format, which means a well-made transparent PNG set is under-priced as often as it is over-priced. At a $2.00 median, the jump from $2 to $3 is about how complete the set is, not about the number of stickers.

What to write in the listing

On this shelf, 30.5% of listings mention GoodNotes and 26.8% mention Notability. Naming the app you tested in is the single most useful line you can write, because it answers the buyer's first question. The rest of the description should answer the next four:

  • Format and background: "Transparent PNG, one file per sticker" says more than "high quality".
  • Size in pixels: of each sticker, not only of the sheet. Only 6.1% of descriptions here give any dimension at all.
  • How many stickers and whether they come as a sheet, single files or both.
  • What they may be used for: personal planning only, or also in things the buyer sells. Only 32.9% of listings here set a licence, so this line alone puts you ahead of most of the shelf.

A preview image that shows one sticker placed on a dark or lined page proves transparency better than any sentence. If your sticker has a white box, the buyer sees it before paying rather than after.

A ten-minute check before you publish

  1. Open one delivered sticker in any image viewer that shows transparency as a checkerboard. If you see white instead, re-export as PNG with transparency.
  2. Import it into the note app you name in the listing, place it on a lined page and zoom to 200%. If the edges blur, export larger.
  3. Count the files in your download and make sure the description says the same number.
  4. Set a licence in the product form so the buyer knows whether they can use the stickers in their own products.
  5. If you also sell planners, list them on Digital Planners and mention matching stickers in both listings.

Stickers are a cheap purchase and a quick one. The buyer who finds a clean, transparent file that drops straight onto their page is the buyer who comes back for your next set.
